I was in Fred Perry today (as you do in Berlin, head straight for the quintessential english store) and the very nice chap in there noticed my brixton cycles t-shirt.
He then proceeded to tell me the Berlin rozzers are clamping down hard on fixed gear bikes (didn’t have the heart to tell him i’m riding a disk brake bruiser and not a pretty track bike). Anyway, it seems the police are stopping any fixed riders and confiscating bikes with only one brake. Rather harsh methinks…
His suggestion, ride fast or get a lawyer.
Anyway, this rather lovely illustration from Shaun Malinowski seemed appropriate.

Well, here he is, my Berlin ride. A Surly 1X1 I was going to call Mr. Snuffleupagus, as I thought he was orange, he’s not goddamit… So, i think ‘Monster Munch’ is his moniker for now.
Gazza, thanks for the prompt.

A rather ‘proper’ Berlin night out. Pizza at 4am. The aftermath. Me, stood near the bike shop. With a horrendous hangover. Building up the courage to ask ‘Entschuldigung, sprechen sie englisch?’. I did in the end. I should have a new bike on Monday. Pics will follow.
I haven’t ridden any of my bikes for over a week… working at home is evil. So! i decided today was the day and a took a little spin up to the Thames barrier, then followed the Thames path back down to Greenwich.
I love this ride, it’s weird, dirty and beautiful in equal measure.
I love the barrier, it could have looked so functional, which i guess it does, but it has a certain beauty to it too.
It gets pretty dirty and industrial around here, which i find fascinating.
Then opens up alongside the dome, or the arena, or whatever you want to call it.
Then you’re rudely dumped out next to the Blackwall tunnel, which is truly minging. Before heading back to picturesque Greenwich, which i always find a little disappointing.
Boy it’s hot.
i popped into tokyo fixed gear last weekend for the first time, and what a dangerous place it is, lots of loveliness.
this basket/bar combo from copenhagen parts really caught my eye though. i’ve spent the last week thinking how/why i want/need to make this work. i’ve come to the conclusion that i need to buy a bike just for this. oh yeah.
Road of Knives just has everything, monsters, fighting, motorbikes…
Described by the authors as a ‘Battle Blog’ with artists taking turns to draw monsters fighting, personally, I’d just describe it as ace.
Thanks to SuperPunch (again)
I’m sure there are far more worthy images to post on Scott Pommier’s site. But, this one really appealed.
Great work, the shot on the home is amazing. Go look.
